What really happens on a Dirty Girls 4×4 Weekend…
Recollection of the Dirty Girls 4×4 Weekend on 7-9 Februaryby Holly Scott. As a returning ‘Dirty Girl’ to the 4×4 Weekends, I thought I knew what I was in for, but I was wrong. Once I heard the weekend’s motto, “what happens on the island… goes straight on Facebook,” and met the gorgeous group of women away from their husbands and jobs for the weekend, I knew it was going to be a blast.
We may appear to be glamorous, delicate beings at first glance, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get down and dirty while we’re in our 4WDs, tackling soft sand, inland tracks, and coastline driving. Women are more than capable to conquer off road driving, we just need an opportunity to show it, and that is exactly what Dirty Girls 4×4 Weekends offers. We are given the opportunity to learn how to drive 4WDs and discover their potential, and nothing can surpass that new found knowledge and experience.
When we weren’t driving the mean 4WDing machines, we were receiving as much royal treatment as possible while camping, or should I say ‘Glamping’. That’s right, there aren’t any cramped tents or sleeping bags for us ladies! We stay in Glamping tents, equipped with cozy beds and our very own ensuite, not to mention up off the ground from all the creepy crawlies. Although I will admit, it wasn’t only us ladies Glamping on Moreton Island, we did have a few gentlemen there to tow us out of soft sand when we got (only a little bit) stuck, and to generally treat us like the goddesses that we are. Any of the ‘Dirty Girls’ will tell you that we were wined, dined and pampered all weekend, with two delicious dinners at Castaways restaurant, bubbles and canapés while watching the sunset, and makeovers from Stefan hair and makeup professionals.
Now, I can’t not mention that possibly the most breathtaking experience for me was snorkelling at the Tangalooma Wrecks. I had never snorkelled before, and never dreamed it would be as stunning as it was. The only thing that wasn’t beautiful about it was the wetsuit process. In fact, at one point we had a lady pinned down on the sand while we zipped her up, and if that’s not an enticing image, I don’t know what is!
For any women a little hesitant about 4WDing, please push that aside and let yourself have a go at it. With the experienced drivers coaching you through it and your girlfriends by your side, there is absolutely nothing to worry about on these 4×4 weekends. Besides, Bob Muller, the host of the Dirty Girls Weekends, will tell you to give the car some credit! He says ‘you won’t break the car, and if you do, we’ll fix it!’
I couldn’t recommend this weekend enough to ladies, no matter what level of 4WDing experience you have, you are guaranteed to benefit from it and have an absolute ball!
